Two weeks ago, a Monolith came down..
My testament to three years spent at Swindon College.

On the walls hung reflections of Philosophy.
Mirrors of Feminism,
Tomes of Existentialism and Dualism.

Monuments were built to commemorate Insomnia..
Life, and Parasites.

People came to see them.
To see us.

Comics.
Illustration.
Fine art.
Photography.
Graphic Design.
Media Make-up.

The most sacred of the nights, that is-
The Private Night Viewing...
Was a joy for all those who exhibited there.

It was a moment to interact with faces we had not seen in so very long.
And to exchange faces with whom we had never encountered.

Then afterward..
Many a drink and many a pizza were sacrificed.

All and a thousand thanks to Simon and Linda, Darren, fellow illustrator Liz Price, and tutors Andy and Nicky for helping me with my display- and to Bal for rolling your ball.

Thanks to Andy (again) and Daniel for the exquisite photography.

Thank you, Luke for being so cool when we accidentally drilled through to your side of the wall...
And for allowing me to stow all my sketchbooks and costume underneath your tablecloth.

Thanks insurmountably to Jeremy for all the pizza!

And thank you, to all those who came from near and far to see our graduation show.

I couldn't have had memories as sweet without you. Much love to you forever.

Propaganda

Weirdness fills my lungs whenever I think about self-promotion.

On the one hand, there's a sense of satisfaction in presenting your own artwork, and a thrill from seeing it take new forms.

You're watching this thing grow!
It's a monster..

A lung disease.

On the other hand, I'm usually pretty anxious about presenting work because it comes from an intimate space. This cocooned inner sanctum that grows things, which up until a particular point only its creator, and maybe a few others, have witnessed..

I'd never want to stop creating; exploring, trying out new things, collaborating with like-minds.. So the lung monster gets lapped up, back into this chest: Sorry anxiety, for as long as we have been friends, this quest for a future in the arts awaits!

.

My final degree show is about to occur, and you are more than welcome to join! To see what myself and those in my class of BA Illustration: Sequential and Narrative have been up to this past year. (Sam has a blog!!)

I also made friends in the other departments throughout the years, and am looking forward to seeing their shows too! Honestly, this course is one of the best things to happen to me and I am so thankful to have been on it! Lessons for life, not just the arts. So in honour of my ma, pa, bro, close support, and teachers, I hope to do well! And make you all proud..

Signed,

Glowing Musings

someone to say good morning to
someone to say goodnight to
someone to talk with
someone to listen to

the house doesn't move
the house is still..
Heavy.
and stubborn
and possessive
and not even a person

it keeps out the birds
and it keeps out the sun
and it keeps in everything
and shoos out everyone

- enoki

A lunar paper, which conveniently glows in the dark. A mobile phone.

I have a Private Twitter account to net all those glowing musings before bed, and the shadowy thoughts just before realising that I am already awake. They are terrified of the sun.

These thoughts were captured 9th August 2012. I was concerned I'd lost these feelings as I could not at some point access my data any further past September.. And for this reason, I have begun attempting to dedicate more time toward scribing things onto more physical papers.

Dr. enoki's advice, should you need it: If you wake up feeling glum, why not address it creatively until you feel better? Some of my best things come out from feeling like my worst!

Making your innermost thoughts visible is scary!

Ritualistic Red

Spontaneous drawing practices.
A day's haven for favouring toads, ritualistic red,
and acknowledging asymmetrical breasts. Everywhere..!

There is also a picture known as the 'Spontaneous Third' in the series, and also one known as the 'Spontaneous Prologue'. The 'Spontaneous Third' is pretty vicarious, but was nevertheless graced with a kind approval to make her debut in art publication- PAPER Publication's debut December issue. Yeyy!! The publication can be found within the belly of Bristol from December 1st.. Though this means she (the submission) has also grown all shy and coy for now; she tips my ear toward her mouth and whispers.. 'I do not wish to be revealed unclothed,  for dis-want of spoiler on your outrageous blog would be most disgraceful..' And as she whispers, our forgotten friend- the Spontaneous Prologue, continues to lie white-eyed awake on some remembered night, and dreams of the day I'll purchase 'that same' gold pen with which to finish him off.. I'd like to say it ends happily for the Spontaneous Prologue, but you'll only be able to tell by conferring with the Latter Blog Post..

Sleep well. Don't catch too many colds, and goodnight! x
